Tish Brown, MT, RN

vocals, ukulele, fiddle, piano, viola

Tish has written many of the original songs in Abigail’s Garden repertoire. Her first song was titled, “Abigail’s Garden” and she has written about 20 songs since then. More recent songs include “Travellin’ Sam” (about the cat that adopted them recently) and “You Can’t Stop a Girl” (about becoming a strong woman). When she’s not singing and playing the ukulele, she uses her fiddle to drive the band’s sound.

Tish earned a degree in Music Therapy from Slippery Rock in western Pennsylvania. After working several years in New Jersey as a Music Therapist, she moved back to PA to teach elementary music while also maintaining a full schedule of lessons including violin, viola, piano and guitar. She was the keyboardist for the praise band, Glory Be.

With Abigail's Garden and the Susquehanna Trio, she has played concerts, festivals, weddings, corporate events, Medieval & Renaissance feasts and local wineries. She began her second career in 1993 and worked as an RN in the Lancaster Area for a Homecare agency. She currently does private homecare nursing as well as pursuing her musical interests.

Tish's statement:

“My love for music began at age eight with a desire to play the piano like my older brother. I followed the classical path for many years eventually earning a BS in Music Therapy. Then the fun began! I made the shift from viola to fiddle to play along with my sister and brother-in-law (Laurie & Tom Reese) in a classical/folk trio called the Susquehanna Trio. With their help, I began to learn the art of comping and improv – so much to learn!”

“We then got the idea to add vocals and focus on Irish music which flowed into the creation of our Irish trio, Abigail's Garden. So much fun.... I feel like the many hours at the piano harmonizing in middle and high school set the stage for our current musical creations and my original songs. I also enjoy teaching others about this lovely gift of music and still practice the art of healing as an RN. I enjoy the variety of life and will continue to explore and create music as long as the universe allows!”
